Take on the Inca Trail, known as one of the most sacred pilgrimages around the world, on this 4-day trek through the Urubamba Valley towards the citadel of Machu Picchu. This spiritual journey will help you understand the culture of the Incas and the archeological legacy they left behind. Put on your walking shoes and challenge yourself to the sacred route to Machu Picchu. To avoid disappointment, book this tour months in advance, as Peruvian law requires permits for this site and allows a limited number of daily visitors.

Take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience and join a spiritual hiking tour to one of the most sacred places in the world. Explore the Urubamba Valley on foot and walk the same trails used by the Inca people centuries ago.
Your guided hiking tour takes you through the hills and valleys of the renowned Andes mountain range. You'll trek past old Inca ruins and cities along the way and enjoy the diverse animal and plant life unique to this mountainous region, which your expert guide will point out, as well as share tales of Incan civilization along the way.
Although a cook accompanies you on the trail and meals are provided, it is recommended that you bring snacks to keep your energy level high. All tents and sleeping equipment are included in the cost and there are porters who carry the equipment for you.
There is usually one guide for every four participants, and the guides set the pace depending on group fitness level. Groups also can be split into separate parties if pace level is different amongst the participants.
There is one porter for every two people and the porters carry all the camping equipment. They do not carry backpacks or personal belongings.
Although the entire Inca Trail is only 26 miles (43km) long, the altitude can pose a problem for many people and a strong fitness level is required.
See the Itinerary below for more detailed information.
Important Note:
Peruvian law requires a permit for each visitor to Machu Picchu and limits admission to the site to 500 people daily. We recommend booking this Inca Trail tour months in advance, as space is limited and permits sell quickly. If your initial desired travel date is not available, please contact our Customer Care team, who will assist you in checking availability on other dates and also suggest alternative tours exploring the Inca Trail that do not require permits.

When you’re in Arequipa, you can’t miss a trip to Colca Canyon (Cañon del Colca), a stunning natural wonder that’s twice as deep as the USA’s Grand Canyon. This overnight trip is a great way to get there and experience southern Peru’s beautiful highland landscapes, villages and wildlife. You’ll visit a wildlife reserve and admire colonial architecture in two highland villages; see and learn about Andean condors; walk on the base of a volcano; and, of course, enjoy spectacular views of Colca Canyon. Transport and two lunches are included in the tour price but overnight accommodation is not; please see Additional Information below for more details.

Day 1: Arequipa – Colca Valley (L)
After pickup from your hotel by minivan or coach, depending on group size, you’ll make your way north of Arequipa to the Colca Valley. The spectacular drive to Colca will have you glued to your window as you drive through two skirts of volcanoes - Chachani and Pichu Pichu.
Pass through the Pampa Cañahuas Vicuna Reserve, where you’ll see vicunas (a relative of the llama) roaming freely in the highlands. Then drive past typical Peruvian villages on your way to the town of Chivay, where you’ll enjoy lunch and then have the rest of the day free to relax, get acquainted with the town and your accommodation, and have dinner on your own. If you wish, visit the nearby hot baths (own expense; your guide can provide information on this if you’re interested); if you have chosen to stay at the Colca Lodge Hotel, you can enjoy its private hot springs.
Overnight: Your selected accommodation in Chivay or at the Colca Lodge Hotel (not included)
Day 2: Colca Valley – Arequipa (L)
Wake up early for the highlight of your day – a glorious view of Colca Canyon. Head with your guide to the Condor Cross viewpoint, which 3,960 feet (1,200 meters) high boasts fabulous views of the canyon, one of the deepest in the world. In addition to the canyon vistas, you’ll also hopefully catch sight of condors flying through the air. Symbols of the Andes, these enormous birds have wingspans of up to 10.5 feet (3.2 meters), and Condor Cross is one of the best places in the area to see them!
Next, visit the villages of Maca (Achoma) and Yanque, where you can admire their well-preserved colonial churches before enjoying lunch and relaxing on the drive back to Arequipa, where your tour ends.
